LCI ENROLLMENT OBSTACLES

Making the decision to pursue any type of secondary education opportunity and earn a degree can be a difficult one. Whether you are finishing high school or considering a career change, your next steps are important ones. However, there may be some hurdles in front of these steps. While everyone’s situation is unique there are some common obstacles that can potentially deter or dissuade you from enrolling. If culinary school is something that you’ve been considering, but if there is one, or possibly more, reasons that seem to be standing in your way, there are likely answers and solutions that can get you on your way to pursuing your culinary dreams.

  • Admission Requirements for Culinary School

    While different culinary schools require different educational or experience prerequisites.  The admission requirements at Louisiana Culinary Institute include: 


    1. Have proof of High School graduation or an equivalent. Acceptable forms of proof include the following: High School Diploma, Official High School transcripts, GED, HISET, High School Equivalency documentation or an acceptable Home School Certificate.
    2. Complete an application and pay the non-refundable $25.00 application fee.
    3. Provide three references who can attest to your professional character.
    4. Complete a short essay (500-750 words) explaining the desire to obtain a degree in culinary arts.
    5. Complete the Louisiana Culinary Institute developed Culinary Math Test.
    6. Successfully pass the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test.  **Only required for applicants that do not hold an Associate Degree or higher or have official college transcripts showing credit with a grade of ‘C’ or higher in a college-level Math or English Course.
    7. Interview with the Admissions Panel.
    8. Provide Proof of Citizenship. Two forms of identification are required. One form must be a photo ID: (Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, Social Security card, passport, etc.)

    If accepted into the program a $75.00 registration fee is required.


    As you can see there are several variables that can be interchanged for many of the requirements.  No matter what type of high school level diploma you have, the courses that you’ve taken, or the experiences that you’ve had, there are alternative accomplishments that can be accepted.  There are also resources that can help you prepare for the English or math test, if necessary.  Beginning your culinary journey can be achieved in only a few simple steps.
